1950s Barkcloth Fabric for Sale

October 2, 2013 | Comments

These two pieces of funky lightweight cotton barkcloth fabric measure 36.5″ x 47″. The pattern is from the 1950s and was made by Saison Happily Married Fabrics.

Both pieces are hemmed on one side. They would be perfect as curtains or as really great cushions to add a vintagey touch to a couch or a bed that has a clean and modern style. Or they would nicely complete a mid-century modern room.

Barkcloth is a soft, thick, slightly textured fabric. Its surface is reminiscent of tree bark. Barkcloth is usually made of densely woven cotton fibres. Historically, the fabric has been used in home furnishings, such as curtains and upholstery. Its tropical and abstract prints are typically associated with 1940s to 1960s home fashions.
